How and Why We Use the Blood of Jesus in Our Lives, Ep 2-16

Welcome back! I am your host Dawn Simmons and in this episode of Conquering Our Unseen Enemies we are going to be discussing the blood of Jesus and I mean specifically understanding why we plead the blood of Jesus.  This is considered unbiblical by some because they accuse Christians of using the blood of Jesus like a slot machine and because they don’t understand the significance God gave the blood from the beginning.  So we are going to address this and talk about how we should be using it because it is very clear in the scripture the importance and significance of the blood from the beginning to the end of times which we will see in the Book of Revelation. Alright. Let’s get going.

We can all agree Jesus has redeemed us, meaning He paid the price for us through his sacrifice, through the shedding of His blood on the cross. He has justified us, meaning he has made us righteous through his sacrifice.  That doesn’t mean we are perfect, but through Him we are made righteous.  He is also our Interecessor, it says it in Isaiah 53 and He tells us that no one comes to the Father except through me, that is in John.  We should all be able to agree that Jesus has sanctified us, that is a word a lot of people don’t like because it sounds complicated but it really just refers to being set apart from Sin by being in relationship with Jesus.  It doesn’t mean we never sin, but Jesus forgives, we sin, we get back up, repent and our relationship with Him provides us that opportunity for forgiveness.  So we can all agree or should all be able to agree on those areas as an understanding of Christianity.  Where we need to spend time is on discussing the necessity of the blood and the power it does have and why we would call on that in our lives.

We are going to go through some scripture and use a lot of Old Testament references.  The Old Testament gives us the base for what happens in the New Testament, so we do need to know it.

Let’s start from the beginning.  Passover, in Exodus 12 we read about the Passover.  At this time the Israelites were still in Egypt, they were slaves to the Egyptians and Moses was to lead them out, but Moses has to follow specific instructions from God on how to accomplish that successfully.  God had produced several plagues at this point and there was a judgment that was about to take place. For the Israelites, God provided protection using the blood from sacrificial lamb.  The judgment of God and the plague God was going to send over the land of Egypt was death of man and animal. God was redeeming the Israelites and offering life through the use of the blood of a sacrificial Lamb, if they were obedient.  Each family had to sacrifice an animal so they could have the blood they needed to save their lives.  The Lamb is one of many prophetic references to Jesus. The Israelites were then given specific instructions on how to apply the sacrificial blood in verse 22.  They were take the blood of the lamb that was in the bason and using hyssop, which was a wild plant, and using hyssop and apply it to the lintel, and the side posts of their home.  Then they had to stay in their home, they couldn’t go outside or they would no longer be protected.  So again, God provided a way, but they had to be obedient or they were not protected.  If they are not protected, they will die.  In His protection is Life.

Now let’s move over to Leviticus 17, the Israelites are in the wilderness now and let’s see what God tells Moses about how the priests are to operate in the tabernacle.  God gave specific instructions regarding their sacrifices and in those instructions, He tells them what they are to do with the blood of the animal that is sacrificed.  The priests were to sprinkle the blood of the animal on the altar.  In verse 11, God tells Moses the life of the flesh is in the blood, so they are not to eat the blood. He tells them 4 times in that chapter alone not to eat the blood or there will be consequences. If God is telling them this multiple times, it’s important.

Now lets go take a look at Isaiah, Isaiah has numerous prophetic words of the coming of Jesus, we are going to take a look at a few relating to the blood. Isaiah 53 tells us a lot about God’s plan for Jesus, His purpose and what He would have to go through to fulfill that purpose.  Verse 4:

Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
    stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, (pierced on the cross, resulting in blood poured out)
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed. (referencing blood)
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
    each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, (blood of the lamb, He is the Lamb)
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
By oppression[a] and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living; (death)
for the transgression of my people he was punished.[
b]
He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
    and though the Lord makes[
c] his life an offering for sin, (Atonement)
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
11 After he has suffered,
he will see the light of life[
d] and be satisfied[e]; (the resurrection, life)
by his knowledge[
f] my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[g]
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,[
h]
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors. (Intercessor)

So if we look at what occurred in Exodus, what the priests were required to do in Leviticus and what we just read in Isaiah, we can clearly see that the blood in each case represented life.  Think about this, when God used Mary to give us Jesus, he used his own blood, his own flesh to create Jesus.  Jesus wasn’t created out of nothing, He was created out of the life of God combined with the what He required of Mary to give us Jesus.  Now let’s take that a step further.

In John 6, starting with verse 31 we see Jesus giving us an understanding of life and an explanation of Old Testament references and prophecy.

Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’[c]”

32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

41 At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”

43 “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’[d] Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

So understand we do this to be in communion with Him, not as a memorial to Him.  We don’t do communion as a sad, somber event, it is a joyous time to proclaim our life in Him. 1 Corinthians 11:23 says this: 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

When we take communion, we do it because we are saved.  An unsaved person does not participate in communion, they should not.  It is not appropriate to do so if Jesus is not your savior, it has no meaning.  It’s important to understand that life is in the blood and the blood is in the flesh.  When we partake of communion, we are taking part in the flesh and blood of Jesus, we become a part of Him. It was God’s plan from the beginning.  It’s in the bible from the beginning.  It’s also in the Bible in the end.  Let’s take a look at the Book of Revelation 12:10.  This is in the future, end times and at this moment there is a war in heaven and satan gets thrown down.  Here is what john describes next:

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
    has been hurled down.
11 They triumphed over him

by the blood of the Lamb
    and by the word of their testimony;

So here we see the victory for Jesus is accomplished through his blood.

I know that was a lot of information to absorb, but are you hearing a theme?  The blood offers us life, the blood is life, the blood has power and the authority of Jesus and it is how, in the end, we overcome satan.  So the blood is important, the blood is biblical and we are both able and expected to use it to overcome the enemy.

So where and how do we use it?  Well, we need to understand that the use of the blood must coincide with the will of God, so we must be aligned with God.  If we try to use it for selfish motives, it won’t work.  When it aligns with His plans, then it most certainly will work.

A few weeks ago was the one year anniversary of my son’s stroke.  I’ve told the story a few times so I won’t tell the whole story again now, but I want to tell you how I used the blood of Jesus in those moments to ensure my son’s life was protected.

On April 3, 2022, it was a Sunday, I was working at home writing a prayer course called Moving Mountains Through Prayer, there’s a little irony there.  Anyhow, as I was writing I get a call from my daughter in law just letting me know my son was in ER but it didn’t seem serious just an FYI.  I asked to talk to him, we still had Covid rules here in the hospital, so I was staying home.  I stopped at that point and asked the Lord about it and He told me my son would recover, he said it was an unlawful attack on him, to trust in Him, He was seeing everything and then He told me 2 days.  About an hour later, things were very different.  She asked me to come because the doctors weren’t listening to her.  My son was 26 at the time.

A lot happened in the hours that followed but that night it was finally diagnosed that he had a major stroke and he was taken to the nearby stroke center.  On the second day he had surgery, we thought everything was great, we left him for the evening and as soon as we got home go the call that something was wrong, he was going back into emergency surgery and they didn’t think he was going to make it.  They wanted us to rush back so we could say goodbye.  As we rushed back I prayed, this did not line up with what the Lord told me about the situation, so this could not be the truth of God.  This could not be his outcome because God said he would recover which means he will live.  When I walked in the room to see him, he was prepped for surgery and he was not even remotely the same as when I left him an hour earlier.  He looked lifeless laying there.  It was heart wrenching but I didn’t have time to deal with my heart, I had to use my head to pray and plead the blood of Jesus over my son.  I had to plead the life blood of Jesus over my son. My son is saved so he had a right to the lifesaving blood.  What the Lord says is true is true.  No matter how things looked or how I felt by what I saw, I was told he would recover and that is what I chose to put my faith in, the words of the Lord.

Because I knew that was in alignment with what I was told, I knew pleading the blood was the right prayer, the right words to use.  We need to make sure we are in alignment and what we are asking is in alignment.  If you can’t hear God speak to you yet, there’s ways to work on that but you can still know the character of God and pray what you know.  We don’t pray this way lightly, we pray this way when we need protection, when we are facing something that we need His life blood to intervene.  The enemy cannot stand against the blood.  I read today someone say that they used to plead the blood, but they heard a demon tell them that doesn’t work and they never said it again.  Then they went on to chastise anyone who did stating that it doesn’t work as if they were some authority on it. That’s stupidity.  Of course the enemy will tell you it doesn’t work.  He is a liar.  If he can convince you it doesn’t work, you will stop doing it.  Can we refer back to Revelation 12;11, it tells us the enemy was conquered by the blood of the Lamb! Nough said!!!

I hope this has been helpful to you.  If you know someone who could benefit from this podcast, please share.  Using what we discuss here can be life changing if we are willing.
