Episode 2-40: How to Overcome Territorial Spirits
Welcome Back! I am your host Dawn Simmons and in this episode of Conquering Our Unseen Enemies we are going to be discussing Territorial Spirits. We are going to take a look at what the Bible tells us about the existence of spiritual entities, explaining how Jesus overcame enabling us to overcome, a general understanding of their rank and order, how this affects you and your community, and how we are to address this territorial spiritual warfare. This is a 2 part episode because we are going to lay the groundwork in the first episode and then put a plan together for how to do it effectively but simply in your own area. We will use my own town as our example.
As always let’s discuss our Top Show Points:
Discussion centered on territorial spirits
This episode was inspired this week by the happenings in Israel. What is happening now is rooted in biblical history, the world has come together during this time to condemn Hamas.
While we see the fighting going on in the natural, what the news is revealing to us, there is much more going on there that we aren’t seeing, a battle in the heavenlies over that territory. There are evil territorial spirits at work in Israel.
The Bible has hundreds of places where it mentions a supernatural world
Our disc
Acts 1 tells us when Jesus returns, it will be to the Mount of Olives, just outside Jerusalem, maybe ¾ miles or just over a kilometer.
The supernatural world impacts what happens in our natural world and that’s in part due to the power of territorial spirits.
Ephesians. Chapter 2, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”
2 Corinthians 4:4, The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
When Jesus came, he was entering Satan’s territory, where he had set up his rebellious kingdom on earth. Jesus came and overcame his kingdom.
Paul refers to satan several ways in just those two scriptural references: ruler of the kingdom of the air, god of this age. As a believer here on earth, you are seen by satan as an enemy of his kingdom. He will attack you.
Are you a victim or are you a warrior in God’s kingdom? A believer cannot be a pacifist in the kingdom of God. You will be overrun with satan’s strategies. You have to be a warrior if you are going to survive. You cannot live a defensive life and hope to achieve victory. That is not how it works. You have to be an active participant in the warfare that is already going on around us.
Colossians 1:13, “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Ephesians in 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Spiritual beings have assignments and some of those assignments are territorial, not over individuals which is what we have discussed here most frequently.
How dark forces are structured
Satan: Commander
Principalities or princes:
Powers:
Rulers of darkness:
Demons or wicked spirits:
Matthew 13, “That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
Mark 4:15, Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.
2 Corinthians 10:3, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
The way we enter warfare is through prayer. Do not limit prayer to a posture, a time or a location. Pray with your heart, pray with a purpose and pray without limits.
Ephesians tells us in 6:18, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Without faith behind our prayer we are going to struggle. We don’t need to know when, we just need to stand on faith that it will.
